Apoala Waterfall

We head northwest out of Oaxaca city to visit the spectacular Apoala waterfall. On our 2.5 hour drive we pass through picturesque, rugged country. The village is situated in a raised valley at the end of which is a shear wall of stone that drops off leading down through the mountains.

The village of Apoala is a gem nestled into stark cliffs. On arrival, we head down to the cascade (about an hour walk down steps and trails) to swimming pools and water falls. We have the opportunity to swim in 2 different pools and then relax on the shore.

We head back uphill and enjoy lunch by the river, and after lunch we hike into the canyon to  take in the incredible geography and geology.
